Do The Work
“Transformation is not magic. It’s hard work” -Sonya Renee Taylor
We’d all love a magic button to shift things for us, right? A button that could take away our anxiety, shame, impulsive behaviors, unhealthy habits, etc. Have you ever found a magic button? If so, do tell!
My experience has been that there is no magic button to change and instead it’s a lot of practice, persistence and effort over time.
Hard work can look like below-
Attending the AA meetings even though you’d rather watch Netflix
Being honest when lying feels safer
Sharing your emotions instead of carrying them alone
Making realistic commitments to yourself and keeping them
Choosing your health over others’ potential perception of you
Being vulnerable
Digging into the narratives you carry and why
Making time for rest and play
Asking for help even though you feel like a burden
Saying no… and saying yes
Consider these areas of your life - relationships, work, play and health.
Where are you putting in a lot of effort? Is there an area you’d like to put in some more effort?
What is a transformation you are hoping for in your life and what are you doing to help that come about?
A way you could motivate yourself to keep up the hard work is using a tracker. It could be in a notebook or your phone, just track each time you engage in one of the healthy habits you are working to cultivate. Tracking habits can be motivating to remain consistent and also an encouraging visual.
Do you know someone who has made an incredible transformation you dream of reaching someday? Reach out to them and ask them about their journey.
How have you already transformed as you reflect on your younger self? Could you possibly be a mentor for someone else who is also hoping to make some of those changes?
Your hard work over time is the magic button.
Show up. Do the work. And see the magic happen.
