FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you accept insurance?
For PA residents, I accept Aetna, Cigna, United Health Care, Oscar, Oxford and BCBS of Massachusetts.
For OH residents, I accept Cigna and Aetna.
I offer a $90-$120 sliding scale based on household income. I can provide you with receipts (superbills) for you to submit to your insurance company for a percentage reimbursement. Not all plans reimburse so I recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm before scheduling. You can ask them if they reimburse and at what percentage for services with an out of network licensed professional counselor; specifically with codes 90791 (first intake session) and 90834 (therapy sessions). Also inquire about a required deductible being met before reimbursement. Please note this will require I submit a mental health diagnosis.

Is your practice 100% virtual?
Yes.

Are you currently accepting new clients?
Yes.

How much will therapy cost overall?
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate,” which estimates how much your medical care will cost.

How frequently will we meet?
Weekly is recommended in the beginning of treatment. Pending your needs, availability and budget- treatment frequency can of course be flexible. If engaging in EMDR, weekly is recommended.

Are you “sex positive” - and also, what does that mean?
Yes. It means that I am here to support your consensual sexual activity, sexual values and sexual health. I am not a sex therapist so if your main therapy focus is sexual wellbeing, I’d recommend searching here for a qualified provider. However, if you’d like to include dialogue about your sexual wellbeing in addition to our other work together, I welcome and invite that! If you grew up in a conservative environment and/or purity culture and now experience sexual shame, we can explore this together.

Do you provide Biblical, Christian counseling?
No. I have knowledge of the Bible and Christianity and if that’s important to you, we can incorporate it into our dialogue, yet that is not my therapeutic approach.

What if we don’t believe the same things?
That is welcome and celebrated! What’s important in the therapy room is what you value and that is our focus. There is no pressure to say or not say certain things about your spiritual journey, all is welcome. I work with people with a variety of spiritual preferences or thoughts and those who aren’t interested in spirituality.

I’m an atheist, witch, Catholic, grew up in LDS faith, etc. - could we still be a good fit?
YES! Please reach out to set up a video call so we can discuss further to help you decide.

It looks like you work with LGBTQ individuals, is it okay that I’m straight?
YES! I work with hetero, cis, trans, non-binary and/or queer individuals.

What are examples of religious trauma?
Difficulty with your desire and sexuality due to purity culture
Wrestling with integrating your faith and sexuality / gender identity
Adjusting to a loss of a religious tribe and therefore a lost sense of belonging
Homophobic, racist, ableist, patriarchal and/or sex-shaming church practices
Loss of your worldview after engaging in dogmatic, fundamentalist teachings

What is EMDR? (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy)
I am Somatic & Attachment Focused EMDR Trained. EMDR is used to help process past traumatic memories so they’ll have less of an impact on your present day. With this model, you do not have to share all the details of the trauma. We will work together to allow your body to create the healing it’s designed to do. We’ll use eye movements or tapping to promote the healing. There are 8 total phases. I have been trained in an approach that incorporates somatic techniques and attachment theory.

What is Trauma Focused ACT? (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
I am Trauma Focused ACT Trained. ACT’s goal is to increase our psychological flexibility. ACT’s approach can be powerfully effective for anxiety and depression. There are 6 main components- which include skills to unhook from thoughts, connect with present moment and skills to live out your personal values. This is an experiential approach full of experiments to find what is most helpful for you. There are lots of fun, helpful metaphors and skills to take home and practice right away to change your daily life.
